Twisted Challenge 13: Faux Tile

As I finished my card & went to show my husband, the convo went something similar to him telling me that I had a nice card with some "Fru-fru" thing on it.  Yes, fru-fru.  I didn't even bother to tell him what it was made of.  I'm not a fan of fru-fru.  LOL

Anyhoo, today's challenge at The Technique Twist challenge we are playing with Faux Tile.  There are several different techniques out there but I chose to use Julie Warner's technique for Faux Tile Background.  How did I twist though?  Hmm......in my Snowy Brillance post, I talked about my brillant moment with Waxed paper!  Here it is.  I was going to use Vellum but quite honestly, the score lines just kept ripping.  So while I was embossing & using my waxed paper to catching my embossing powder, I accidentally spilled some on there.  I just decided to heat it up & it created this glossiness.  So for this fluffy snowflake, I stamped & embossed some snowflakes on waxed paper, then I also made sure the wax was heated up as well.  I then scored the waxed paper to give it tile lines and over the back of it, I sponged on some darker ink.  The layers were then separated - the two clear layers were crumbled & spread back open.  Everything was layered & adhered with a brad.

Pretty cool, right?!  And ssssooo not fru-fru!  ;)  Come check out the rest of the DT at The Technique Twist & link up your own creation for your chance to win!

A moment of Snowy Brillance

Every have that morning where you wake up leisurely on your day off so happy that you could sleep in for a change?  Yeah, that wasn't this morning for me!  My eyes popped open & stayed that way at 5a!  Seriously?! My normall body alarm clock of 746a would have been just fine, thank you!

Anyhoo, it must have been due to the fact that my muse was calling & I had a moment of "snowy" brillance!  Yes, I said it!  SNOWY Brillance!  What the heck am I talking about?! Waxed Paper, of course! HA!  I was actually creating something for our next challenge over at The Technique Twist (b/c I'm all about thinking outside of the box) and low & behold, it was like a lightening bolt came down & said WAXED PAPER - USE IT!  Therefore, a moment of Snowy Brillance.  So let's get to it!

There are so many great SNOW challenges out there this week!

Did you catch a theme there??  Yes, ALL are Clean And Simple - CAS challenges!

So as I'm making my sample, I was using Waxed Paper for the embossing powder part so I could place it easily back into the jar.  Well, I accidentaly inked up the waxes paper too & then sprinkled embossing powder over it.  OOPS!  But, I was all, let me just heat this up!  And then my snowy brillant moment happened!  I noticed the waxed paper was nice & glossy afterwards.  Hmm, so if I added some snowflakes in various colors, what would happen?  They just sink right into the wax & doesn't smear!  LOVE IT!  This is actually a double layer of waxed paper, BTW but the stamped images are on the outside not in between the layers.  Gorgeous, right?

House of Cards Inspiration Challenge #2

I was so inspired by the  House of Cards challenge!  There's a beautiful inspiration pic that so clean & sparkly!  And you just KNOW, I love me some sparkle!  ;)

My second card is really my third attempt at this card!  ACK!  Ever have THAT moment where it just won't go right for you?  That was this card.  I wanted to add some vellum to a shaker style card & then decided the sentiment would look much better in the middle of the snowflake.  It's a very subtle WOW to see the fun snowflakes gently showing through the vellum.

Supplies for Shaker Card:
SU! Cardstock: Pool Party, Winter Frost DSP
Ink: SU! Pool Party
Stamp: Think Big Favorites #8 Mini Stamp Set
Accessories: Big Shot, Flurries Framelits, Snowflake Punch, Snowflake Confetti, Vellum, Stampendous Stardust Embossing Powder, Rhinestones

House of Cards Inspiration Challenge

The House of Cards has a great challenge up right now with a beautiful inspiration pic that so clean & sparkly!  And you just KNOW, I love me some sparkle!  ;)  I was so inspired I made two cards!

The first one is very CAS but I felt it was missing something.  I used a die to embossed the cardstock then stamped the snowflake garland & heat embossed it.  I liked it but........

Thought about Susan's Rule of Three and decided that I would add some embossed strips of foil tape.  It anchored the snowflake garland & gave some extra shine to the card.  Now I LOVE this! :)

Supplies for 'Tis the Season:
SU! Cardstock: Basic Grey & Whisper White
SU! Ink: Pacific Point, Versamark
Stamps: Papertray Ink Confetti Garland BordersThink Big Favorites #8 Mini Stamp Sets

Make It Monday Challenge 143: Modern Whimsy Style

It's my first time playing the Make It Monday Challenge!  I've always admired the fabulous creations the Papertrey Ink DT has created but this one is by far one of my favs!  I love all things whimsy & this new style of papercrafting is right up my alley!

I've had this great double sided paper in my stash for years and have no idea who makes it.  It was found in some scrapbooking kit.  The design itself has great whimsical heart flourishes.  I die cut some heart garland from vellum and stamped it in two different colors then spritzed some Shimmer Mist on them.  I gradually started stacking the layers from there until I had a concept I liked.  In going with the love theme, I used a normally holiday stamp - Tis the Season inside as it is the season for love! Or will be by Valentine's Day! :)

Supplies:
SU! Ink: Baha Breeze, Cherry Cobbler
Cardstock: SU! Crumb Cake, Baha Breeze
Stamps: Papertrey Ink Confetti Garland Borders & Think Big Favorites #8 Mini Stamp Sets
Accessories: Big Shot, SU! Expressions Thinlets, Papertrey Ink Garland Dies, Doily, SU! Vintage Faceted Button, Scrapbook paper, Shimmer Mist

Technique Time Tuesday: Choose your favorite past technique

The Design Team at Technique Time Tuesday is taking a little break this month for the holidays but we still want to see what you have in store for us!  This month, we're choosing our favortie past techniques & encourage you to do the same!  There's a great prize package for you to win!
Merry Christmas to YOU, right?!!?  :)

I think my favorite past technique is Water Stamping for a few different reasons.
One, it's easy peasy & anyone can waterstamp!
Two, very little extra tools are involved - water, stamps, ink!
(Seriously, how much more simple can you get?!)
Three, fun variations can be found!

Now, as simple as Waterstamping is, I did get a little technical here & challenge myself with a shaker tag.  HA!  The Snow was stamped & die cut from cardstock inked up with Melon Mambo, Elegant Eggplant, Island Indigo, Pool Party, & Pistachio Pudding. Now once it dried, it kinda created this great Bokah effect as the images dried which I loved!  Sometimes, things that don't turn out exactly as you thought they would but are still marvelous! ;)
I die cut some acetate to fit in between the two snowflakes (don't use punches, it's not pretty - ask me how I know this!).  Then I sprinkled some super fine glitter in between the layers before I glued them together.

Supplies:
SU! Cardstock: Pool Party
SU! Ink: Melon Mambo, Elegant Eggplant, Island Indigo, Pool Party, & Pistachio Pudding
Stamps: Heidi Stamps Flourish, Papertrey Ink Wonderful Words SNOW
Accessories: Big Shot, SU! Flurries Framelits, Papertrey Ink SNOW Die, Acetate, Tombow, SU! Silver Ribbon, Cropodile

Have a fabulous day!

Twisted Challenge 12: Double Stamping

The Technique Twist is back with a fun take on Double Stamping!
Come play with us & check out our DT Call!

This card was pretty fun to make & with the sparkling star - ALL ONE LAYER!  WOOHOO!  :D
But there's so many layers within the one layer!  Whew!

So how did I make it?  First thing I did was die cut the garland strings & using temporary adhesive, laid them down on my base.  I stamped the larger star - once on the base & another on scrap Post-It.  I cut out the Post-It piece and laid it over top of the stamped image.  I then stamped the background stamp over everything.

Supplies:
Cardstock: SU! Very Vanilla, Champagne Glimmer Paper
SU! Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Wild Wasabi, Soft Suede
Stamps: Papertrey Ink Confetti Garland Borders & Think Big Favorites #8 Mini Stamp Sets, SU! Christmas Star
Accessories: Perfect Pearls Copper

Have a fabulously twisted day!
