I used the SNOW die as well the a polka dot embossing folder in my design.  The fun facts: No INK or STAMPS were used!!!

Twisted Challenge 13: Faux Tile

As I finished my card & went to show my husband, the convo went something similar to him telling me that I had a nice card with some "Fru-fru" thing on it.  Yes, fru-fru.  I didn't even bother to tell him what it was made of.  I'm not a fan of fru-fru.  LOL

Anyhoo, today's challenge at The Technique Twist challenge we are playing with Faux Tile.  There are several different techniques out there but I chose to use Julie Warner's technique for Faux Tile Background.  How did I twist though? my Snowy Brillance post, I talked about my brillant moment with Waxed paper!  Here it is.  I was going to use Vellum but quite honestly, the score lines just kept ripping.  So while I was embossing & using my waxed paper to catching my embossing powder, I accidentally spilled some on there.  I just decided to heat it up & it created this glossiness.  So for this fluffy snowflake, I stamped & embossed some snowflakes on waxed paper, then I also made sure the wax was heated up as well.  I then scored the waxed paper to give it tile lines and over the back of it, I sponged on some darker ink.  The layers were then separated - the two clear layers were crumbled & spread back open.  Everything was layered & adhered with a brad.

Pretty cool, right?!  And ssssooo not fru-fru!  ;)  Come check out the rest of the DT at The Technique Twist & link up your own creation for your chance to win!

A moment of Snowy Brillance

Every have that morning where you wake up leisurely on your day off so happy that you could sleep in for a change?  Yeah, that wasn't this morning for me!  My eyes popped open & stayed that way at 5a!  Seriously?! My normall body alarm clock of 746a would have been just fine, thank you!

Anyhoo, it must have been due to the fact that my muse was calling & I had a moment of "snowy" brillance!  Yes, I said it!  SNOWY Brillance!  What the heck am I talking about?! Waxed Paper, of course! HA!  I was actually creating something for our next challenge over at The Technique Twist (b/c I'm all about thinking outside of the box) and low & behold, it was like a lightening bolt came down & said WAXED PAPER - USE IT!  Therefore, a moment of Snowy Brillance.  So let's get to it!

There are so many great SNOW challenges out there this week!

Did you catch a theme there??  Yes, ALL are Clean And Simple - CAS challenges!

So as I'm making my sample, I was using Waxed Paper for the embossing powder part so I could place it easily back into the jar.  Well, I accidentaly inked up the waxes paper too & then sprinkled embossing powder over it.  OOPS!  But, I was all, let me just heat this up!  And then my snowy brillant moment happened!  I noticed the waxed paper was nice & glossy afterwards.  Hmm, so if I added some snowflakes in various colors, what would happen?  They just sink right into the wax & doesn't smear!  LOVE IT!  This is actually a double layer of waxed paper, BTW but the stamped images are on the outside not in between the layers.  Gorgeous, right?

House of Cards Inspiration Challenge #2

I was so inspired by the  House of Cards challenge!  There's a beautiful inspiration pic that so clean & sparkly!  And you just KNOW, I love me some sparkle!  ;)

My second card is really my third attempt at this card!  ACK!  Ever have THAT moment where it just won't go right for you?  That was this card.  I wanted to add some vellum to a shaker style card & then decided the sentiment would look much better in the middle of the snowflake.  It's a very subtle WOW to see the fun snowflakes gently showing through the vellum.

Supplies for Shaker Card:
SU! Cardstock: Pool Party, Winter Frost DSP
Ink: SU! Pool Party
Stamp: Think Big Favorites #8 Mini Stamp Set
Accessories: Big Shot, Flurries Framelits, Snowflake Punch, Snowflake Confetti, Vellum, Stampendous Stardust Embossing Powder, Rhinestones

House of Cards Inspiration Challenge

The House of Cards has a great challenge up right now with a beautiful inspiration pic that so clean & sparkly!  And you just KNOW, I love me some sparkle!  ;)  I was so inspired I made two cards!

The first one is very CAS but I felt it was missing something.  I used a die to embossed the cardstock then stamped the snowflake garland & heat embossed it.  I liked it but........

Thought about Susan's Rule of Three and decided that I would add some embossed strips of foil tape.  It anchored the snowflake garland & gave some extra shine to the card.  Now I LOVE this! :)

Make It Monday Challenge 143: Modern Whimsy Style

It's my first time playing the Make It Monday Challenge!  I've always admired the fabulous creations the Papertrey Ink DT has created but this one is by far one of my favs!  I love all things whimsy & this new style of papercrafting is right up my alley!

I've had this great double sided paper in my stash for years and have no idea who makes it.  It was found in some scrapbooking kit.  The design itself has great whimsical heart flourishes.  I die cut some heart garland from vellum and stamped it in two different colors then spritzed some Shimmer Mist on them.  I gradually started stacking the layers from there until I had a concept I liked.  In going with the love theme, I used a normally holiday stamp - Tis the Season inside as it is the season for love! Or will be by Valentine's Day! :)

Technique Time Tuesday: Choose your favorite past technique

The Design Team at Technique Time Tuesday is taking a little break this month for the holidays but we still want to see what you have in store for us!  This month, we're choosing our favortie past techniques & encourage you to do the same!  There's a great prize package for you to win!
Merry Christmas to YOU, right?!!?  :)

I think my favorite past technique is Water Stamping for a few different reasons.
One, it's easy peasy & anyone can waterstamp!
Two, very little extra tools are involved - water, stamps, ink!
(Seriously, how much more simple can you get?!)
Three, fun variations can be found!

Now, as simple as Waterstamping is, I did get a little technical here & challenge myself with a shaker tag.  HA!  The Snow was stamped & die cut from cardstock inked up with Melon Mambo, Elegant Eggplant, Island Indigo, Pool Party, & Pistachio Pudding. Now once it dried, it kinda created this great Bokah effect as the images dried which I loved!  Sometimes, things that don't turn out exactly as you thought they would but are still marvelous! ;)
I die cut some acetate to fit in between the two snowflakes (don't use punches, it's not pretty - ask me how I know this!).  Then I sprinkled some super fine glitter in between the layers before I glued them together.

SU! Cardstock: Pool Party
SU! Ink: Melon Mambo, Elegant Eggplant, Island Indigo, Pool Party, & Pistachio Pudding
Stamps: Heidi Stamps Flourish, Papertrey Ink Wonderful Words SNOW
Accessories: Big Shot, SU! Flurries Framelits, Papertrey Ink SNOW Die, Acetate, Tombow, SU! Silver Ribbon, Cropodile

Twisted Challenge 12: Double Stamping

The Technique Twist is back with a fun take on Double Stamping!
Come play with us & check out our DT Call!

This card was pretty fun to make & with the sparkling star - ALL ONE LAYER!  WOOHOO!  :D
But there's so many layers within the one layer!  Whew!

So how did I make it?  First thing I did was die cut the garland strings & using temporary adhesive, laid them down on my base.  I stamped the larger star - once on the base & another on scrap Post-It.  I cut out the Post-It piece and laid it over top of the stamped image.  I then stamped the background stamp over everything.

Cardstock: SU! Very Vanilla, Champagne Glimmer Paper
SU! Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Wild Wasabi, Soft Suede
Stamps: Papertrey Ink Confetti Garland Borders & Think Big Favorites #8 Mini Stamp Sets, SU! Christmas Star

Twisted Challenge 11: Traced Doodling

We're testing out the Traced Doodling Technique today at The Technique Twist!
Come join us with your own creation!

I will admit this one gave me a little trouble.  This is my second attempt! :)  I decided on a vellum overlay and then traced the snowflake on the vellum with a Stardust Gellyroll Pen.  I purposely left some areas untraced & added some rhinestones.

I'll be back soon with supply details!

Snow Much Fun!

I had a little time on my lunch today to play!  A perk when you get to work from home some days! :)

Mojo Monday has a great challenge up right now as well.

I dry embossed the Snowflake Garland onto my card base & then added the stamped elements.
Both the Flurry & the Much Fun were heat embossed.

Here's a close up of both the heat & dry embossed elements.
CAS-ual Fridays is holding an embossing challenge for either dry or heat.

A Rustic Christmas Card

The Stampin' Celebration Team has a great inspiration photo this month!  It actually made me think more Christmasy than Autumn-like.  Everything's subject to interpretation, right?  ;)  Using the Retro Sketches Challenge sketch this week, I created this cute little 4.25"x4.25" card below.  This also qualifies for the CAS-ology challenge: Brown.

The burlap is stamped with a Chevron embossing folder (if you look closely, you can see it).  I made a little frame out of retired DSP and added a rock'n'roll stamped Flurry.

Inlaid Embossing Inspiration

We have some awesome inspiration for you at The Technique Twist!  Check it out & then link up at The Technique Twist with your own fun creation!

I decided to go a little different this round and use doilies instead of die cut shapes!   I created my foldover doily trees after I lightly sponged with Pistachio Pudding.  I adhered them to my cardstock & ran it through my Chevron embossing folder.  I fluffed the trees a tad and used some Versamark & Stardust embossing powder to lightly give the edges some sparkle.  I <3 p="" these="" trees="">

Technique Time Tuesday Challenge: Faux Frame

Technique Time Tuesday has a fun challenge this week!
We're playing with Faux Frames!  If you're unfamiliar with this technique, check out Mynnette's video. Create your own fun design & link up!  There's a great prize involved! :)

I must admit this is the first I've really focused on a Faux Frame & I love the look!  I added an additional bonus to mine by diecutting SNOW  in the middle of it to give it some extra pop!  This was super easy & a great way to give your card some added WOW without lots of added accessories.  I bet it would look great with multiple colors of sponging as well!  Hmm.....I might need to work on another card.  ;)

Technique Twist Challenge 10 - Inlaid Embossing

The Technique Twist is back with another fabulously twisted challenge!  Let's see how you twist the Inlaid Embossing Technique.  I had a lot of fun with this & my inspiration card that I'll show you in a few days.

On the card below I combined Inlaid Embossing with Heat Embossing.  After adhering the Bermuda Bay piece of cardstock to the DSP, I ran it through the Big Shot and Polka Dot Embossing Folder.  I rubbed Versamark all over and sprinkled with Stardust Embossing Powder before heating it up.

Twisted Challenge 09: Double Embossing

Sometimes you make decisions that set your creativity free!  This week, I made some of my own & for the first time in quite sometime, I feel truly inspired again!  My Mojo is BACK!  WOOHOO! :)

Sssoooo, now we're off to our challenge this week at The Technique Twist!  We're Double Embossing with fun powders & lots of shimmer!

You'll notice I used the same stamp & a similar layout on both cards below but I made them slightly different.  I've had this great stamp for a few years (I think it was one I found in the dollar bin at Michaels but I could be wrong.) and got it out to ink it up today!  For the card below, I used three types of embossing powder.  I sprinkled Red Dragon & Stardust embossing powder & heated it up.  Then I went over the whole panel with clear embossing powder for extra shine.

For the square card, I used clear embossing powder & Stardust over Bermuda Bay ink on Foil Paper.  I couldn't quite capture the loveliness of the second image but it's gorgeous IRL.

So now it's your turn!  Come join us at The Technique Twist Challenge & show us whatcha got!

Cardstock: Basic Black & Real Red, Bermuda Bay
DSP: Winter Frost (card #2)
Stamp: $1 butterfly swirl, Sassy Salutations, Petite Pairs
Ink: Versamark, Bermuda Bay
Accessories: Clear Embossing Powder, Stampendous Stardust & Red Dragon, Silver Foil Sheets

Two for One - Bokah & Faux Cloisonne

I'm back from vacation with some fun techniques from both the Technique Twist Challenge & the Technique Time Tuesday Challenge!  Our latest Twisted Challenge is the Bokah Technique.  Check out all the details here.  The Technique Time Tuesday Challenge is all about the Faux CloisonnĂ© technique.  Check out both & come join us!

For the Bokah Technique, I decided to use the new Foil Sheets from Stampin' Up! as my base.  I stamped small stars in Illuminate, Bermuda Bay, Island Indigo, & Pacific Point and then blasted the sheet with a heat gun to dry the ink.  You could also use some embossing powder to heat set these stars.

For the Faux Cloisonne technique, I decided to use DSP instead of a magazine page.  I used the Winter Frost DSP and Pewter Embossing Powder to create the stars.
Supplies: All Stampin' Up!
Ink:  Illuminate, Bermuda Bay, Island Indigo, & Pacific Point
Cardstock/Paper: Basic Gray, Foil Sheets, Winter Frost DSP
Stamps: Banner Greetings, Simply Stars

Twisted Challenge 07 - Faux Patina Technique Inspiration

This probably doesn't look all patina'd, huh???  Actually it is!  I used the Faux Patina Technique but changed it up a bit using Crumb Cake as my base on the Cloudy Day embossing folder with Vellum then added Summer Starfruit, Calypso Coral, & Bermuda Bay in that order. On the front, I used Illuminate to highlight the clouds then heat set using clear embossing powder. I went back over the backside and low-lighted different areas with the Crumb Cake Ink
Here's a better look at the clouds.  So although, it's not your traditional Patina, I love the twists I used & the result! :)
Supplies: All Stampin' Up!
Cardstock: Crumb Cake, Whisper White
Ink: Calypso Coral, Bermuda Bay, Summer Starfruit, Illuminate

I went a little funky with the Faux Patina & used bright colors - Calypso Coral, Daffodil Delight, & Melon Mambo, then went over the whole thing with Illuminate.  (Normally blues, greens, & browns are used as well as gold in traditional patinas.)  I use Pewter Embossing Powder & then sponged over again with Melon Mambo.  I punched out some Pansy's then clipped off a petal for a butterfly.

Come check out the rest of the Fabulously Twisted Design Team's creations & then link up your own Faux Patina at The Technique Twist!

Bubble Wrapping!

I received a card over the weekend from my upline that was created with the bubble wrap technique. It's been a few years since I've used this technique so I dug out some bubble wrap this morning & went to work! It's very easy - Just ink up the bubble side of your wrap then press it inky side down onto card stock. I used Calypso Coral & Melon Mambo here to make my background & the flowers. It's a very simple technique that can add a lot of WOW to a CAS card. SUO Challenges has a great challenge this week to use your favorite technique! I think I'll link this one up!

A bleachy, sketchy My Paper Pumpkin!

In my inspiration piece today for The Technique Twist Bleach Challenge, I also combined the sketch from Hand Stamped Sentiments & My Pumpkin Challenge: Shapes!

One of the best things I like about My Paper Pumpkin is that you receive this kit with colors you may not normally use together.  It kinda sparks your creativity & pushes your boundaries a little farther, ya know? :)

I bleach stamped the light blue tissue paper that came in the MPP package with the same bicycle stamp. Then crumbled it up and adhered it to some Whisper White cardstock.

I die cut the second largest snowflake from Festive Flurries out of the polka dot cardstock then cut off the tips of the larger points so it wouldn't look quite so snowflaky. My spray bottle kinda sprayed the card a little wonky so I just went with it! What else can you do when your card is completely finished? HA!  In the end I liked the random effect!

Supplies: All Stampin' Up! (bleach is the exception)
Cardstock: Basic Grey, Whisper White, Polka Dot from MPP
Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Bermuda Bay
Paper: Winter Frost
Stamps: Bicycle from MPP, Banner Greetings
Accessories: Rhinestones, Shimmer Mist, Big Shot, Festive Flurries Framelits, MPP

Twisted Challenge 06 - Bleach Stamping

The Technique Twist Challenge is bleach stamping today with the Bleach Technique.  Come on over & check out the fabulous DT creations! Show us how you twist up the bleach technique & link up! :)
I created some bleached flurry magnets. I bleach stamped the small flurry twice then once dry, I stamped in the coordinating ink color over one then immediately stamped over the second without reinking.  I die cut them using Flurry Framelits then stamped over the small flurry and bigger flurry with versamark.

I heat set the iridescent ice embossing powder then assembled the flurries & added a magnet on the back. You can see the bleaching is different depending on the colors you use.  It's very bright on the Wild Wasabi & Basic Grey but the Melon Mambo, Island Indigo, & Tempting Turquoise are more subtle.

Supplies: All Stampin' Up! (exception - bleach & magnets)
Cardstock: Wild Wasabi, Basic Grey, Melon Mambo, Island Indigo, & Tempting Turquoise
Ink: Wild Wasabi, Basic Grey, Melon Mambo, Island Indigo, Tempting Turquoise, Versamark
Stamps: Festive Flurries
Accessories: Flurry Framelits, Heat Gun, Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder
