Everything but the Kitchen Sink Challenge

That sounds like a fun challenge, huh? :p Denami Design is sponsoring the new challenge on the Everything But the Kitchen Sink Blog! For this challenge you have to use nailpolish in your design!

Both the button and the middle panel are painted with sparkling nailpolish that changes color in the sun! Tomorrow I'll take a picture so you can see what it looks like in the sun! :p
This also satisfies the Taylored Expressions Sketch Challenge as well. Come join the fun if you get a chance!
P.S. Don't forget to enter your guess for a chance to win BLOG CANDY!

Happy Memorial Day & BLOG CANDY!!!!!!!!!

This Memorial Day, I'll be working for a few hours and it's bound to be busy in the travel world! Other than that, I have no real plans since my hours will be in the middle of the day. It's kind of nice to just "be" for a little while and not rush around this morning.

So how about a little BLOG CANDY to celebrate my 100 posts!!! :p This is truly a milestone for me and when I started my blog, I really didn't think I'd ever see 100 posts! So how do you win?

Guess how many inches of ribbon are in my button jar! I like to recycle jars that I'm about to throw away and I use them for different things like button and bling. Here is the front view and side view of the jar.

So here are the rules:

1. Become a follower of my blog! You must be a follower to win so click on the link to the right if you aren't already a follower.

2. Post a comment with your guess. One guess per person. The person closest to the # of inches will win!
3. Once I have 25 followers, I'll pick the winner!
What do you win? All the ribbon in the jar plus a few little extra surprises! :p
Good luck!
Have a fab day!

Design Team Call for Whimsy Stamps

Whimsy Stamps has put out an open DT call. They have such cute stamps and I've not had a chance to work with them yet. I just love the Carousel Horses from the Crissy Armstrong collection!

To pick 3 of my best designs is hard for me! I think I am my worst critic but I guess we're all a lot harder on ourselves than others! :p
This is one of my favorite cards ever! I actually dyed the flowers w/food coloring! LOL Yes food coloring! I didn't have any reinkers so I created my own color! I made this card for my grandmother after her stroke last year. Since I live in GA and she lives in OH, it's not always easy for me to get home. So I would make little cards to send up to her for her wall in rehab. She's now out, walking again, and living at home with my parents. She's such an inspiration to me!

These tealight cakes are just adorable! I just love making them! I've finally downloaded a cake slice box so I can make one of those to go with them!

One of my favorite projects was this Beanie Gift Card Holder. I didn't have a circle cutter then and actually used the lid from a large Creamer container to create my circle. Have I mentioned how resourceful I am? :p

Wish me luck & submit your own 3 best creations for your own chance at the Whimsy Stamps DT!
Have a fab day!

My FIL's birthday card

Here's one more card for the Splitcoaststampers's Summer DT Challenge & the Taylored Expressions Sketch Challenge.

I made this cute easel card into a birthday card for a guy. The white circle in the middle was cut in slivers to give a little texture to the card. The background was run through a Cuttlebug Swirls Embossing Folder. I didn't have the same color ribbon so I took some white Grosgrain ribbon and inked it up with the seagreen ink then adhered to the card. The square buttons were stamped and then heat embossed to add a little texture to them.

Supplies:
Cardstock: Recollections Cream & white, Martha Stewart Seagreen
Ink: Karen Foster Design Ink in Seagreen
Stamp: Happy Birthday from SU! Bear Buttons Set
Accessories: Grosgrain Ribbon, buttons, Cuttlebug Embossing Folder in Swirls, Sailboat Rub-on

Clean & Simple DT

I'm so excited! :p Splitcoaststampers.com is running a Summer Design Team Challenge for their Clean & Simple Forum! Here are my two entries! I hope to make the cut!

The first challenge is to create a card that represents Summer. I love summer! When I was kid we always had these HUGE family cookouts and watched the fireworks at our old house. It overlooked Hills (the store) and we had a great view while we sipped on our rootbeer floats! :p

I ran the white cardstock through the Swiss Dots folder then stamped the small stars and added the rub-on letters. I heat embossed 3 large stars and popped them up so they kind of exploded from the group of stars. I added the ribbon and button and adhered to the base.

Supplies:
Cardstock: Recollections
Stamps: SU! Stars & Swirls
Ink: SU! Riding Hood Red, Studio G Ink Spots in White, Navy
Accessories: Making Memories Rub-on Letters, ribbon, button, Cuttlebug Swiss Dots Embossing Folder

The second challenge card is to create a card using a group & amusement park colors. Has to be kinda of flashy w/some ribbon. I just love this Bee Trio! So cute! I ran the cardstock through a Swirls Folder using the Blank Embossing Technique. I stamped the Bee Trio and sentiment then colored in w/markers. The ribbon and button were added w/glue dots.

Supplies:
Cardstock: Recollections
Ink: Black Dye Ink
Stamp: Stampendous Bee Trio
Accessories: Gelly Roll Stardust Glitter Pen, markers, Ribbon Boutique Polka Dot Black organza, button

We should know in a few days who makes the cut to the next round! I'm so excited! WOOHOO! I've been wanting to be part of a DT for a while now! Wish me luck! :p

Have a Happy Day!

I really should be cleaning today but I just can't concentrate well so I made a card instead. I know that sounds a little weird but I am making some cards ahead of time for my Grandma. She's currently at the doctor's with my mom and they are finding out the date of her surgery to remove the lump in her breast. She was diagnosed with breast cancer a few weeks ago. :( My Grandma is just absolutely awesome! Early last year, she had a stroke and has triumphed in her recovery! She can now walk again with a cane (sometimes without too!)! She's just amazing! Her response when they found out the news? "Well, Sh**!" :p I do believe that says it all!

Supplies:
Cardstock: Recollections, Vellum
Ink: Black dye Ink, SU! Red Riding Hood, Studio G Ink Spot in Light Green
Stamp: SU! Flight of the Butterfly
Accessories: Ribbon, Cuttlebug embossing Folder, Martha Stewart Circle Cutter, Gelly Roll Stardust Pen
Back to the waiting game for me! I am going to try to concentrate and get some cleaning done!

Multi-tasking!

Today I received two blog posts that were almost identical sketch challenges so I combined them into one! I'm a super multi-tasker! :p The first is DeNami Design Blog's Sketch Challenge 2 and the second is Stampin'B's Design Team Blog Challenge #59.

I've had these fab glittery flowers by Melissa Frances for over a year and never found a way to use them! I knew that these were what I wanted to use today though and found some designer paper that matched! The cardstock letters were heat embossed in Clear powder and SU! Chocolate Chip ink. I added the pearls and voila! Two challenges in one! :p

Supplies:
Cardstock: Recollections
Designer Paper: The Paper Studio
Ink: SU! Chocolate Chip ink
Accessories: The Paper Studio Pearls, SU! Clear Embossing Powder, Melissa Frances Pop Out Glitter Accents in Flowers, cardstock letters

P.S. I'd really like to do a blog giveaway soon but my goal is 25 followers before I do so be sure to click on the link to the side to become a follower! :p

Clean & Simple

Here's my take on this great sketch from Clean & Simple Stamping Blog.

I used a few stamps from different SU! sets and some Stardust embossing powder to create my card using the Rock 'n Roll Technique on some of the flowers. The flower brads (on clearance at Michaels right now for $1.79) in the middle of the medium yellow flowers were also heat embossed. For the vines, I masked off the large flower and added the vine from a different flower stamp. I used the Swiss Dots Cuttlebug Embossing Folder on the base of the card. After stamping, I matted the white layer on a purple layer of cardstock and then attached to the base w/foam tape.

Supplies:
Cardstock: Recollections
Ink: Dye Ink in Purple & Yellow
Stamps: A Beautiful Thing Set, Flight of the Butterfly Set, Vine is from a $1 stamp
Accessories: Flower brads, Yellow Polka Dot Ribbon from The Ribbon Boutique, Stardust Embossing Powder

I'm off to do a little more creating! There are two great sketches out there that are so similiar I can combine them into one! I love to multi-task! :p More later!

Have a fab day!

Brianna's BIG BASH!

So Miss Brianna is having this big BASH at the end of school in a few weeks and I'm the lucky one who's making her invites! :p Her Auntie Karen asked me if I would create some cute invitations to help celebrate summer and the end of school.
I created my own pattern for the flip flop and the designer paper too that created the inside of the flipflop. I took some random swirly foam stamps and stamped yellow, orange, and hot pink ink all over. I then cut out 40 flip flops (yes 40!) and then layered them on orange, yellow, and hot pink paper and cut out another 40 flip flops! The center circles were embossed in Stardust and then cut out. I then assembled everything.

It's been quite the eventful day at work and I'm beat!
Supplies:
Cardstock: Recollections
Stamps: Random Foam swirls, the circle is a SU stamp from A Beautiful Life set
Ink: Studio G Ink Spots in Orange, Dye ink in Yellow and Hot Pink, Black Dye Ink
Accessories: Cuttlebug Embossing Folder in Swirls, TE Tiny Twinkles, Bic markers in yellow, orange, and pink, Foam tape, Ribbon Boutique Ribbon Organza in Orange Polka Dots , Yellow Polka Dots, and Hot Pink (they were out of the polka dot one), Aleene's Paper Glaze, Embossing powder in Stardust

Have a fab night!

Purple & Pearls Tealight Cake

I've made one more tealight cake! I can't help it! I'm addicted! :p

I found these great bridal pearls that were attached to metal threads at Hobby Lobby and wound them around the light. The light just shines off them so prettily! You can't see the embossing so well this time. The flash was just too bright and looked glarish so I turned it off.

Supplies:
Cardstock: Recollections
Ink: Purple Dye Ink
Accessories: Ribbon, Aleene's Paper glaze, Bridal Pearl Threads, Cuttlebug Embossing Folder Swirls, Stardust Embossing Powder, Large and medium Scallop Punches

A Baby Shower Card

My friend, Suzan's baby shower is this weekend! I'm very excited and can't wait to celebrate her soon-to-be-born bundle of joy with her. At first, the doc was definitely sure it was a girl but now he's a little unsure so I made a card that could be for either a boy or girl. I really love the way it turned out! I was so excited b/c I just received the Martha Stewart Circle Cutter for my birthday from my mom and I was able to play with it for the first time yesterday! :p I have been wanting a circle cutter for the longest time but wasn't sure how much use I would get out of it so I held off on the purchase.

The letters are cardstock that I heat embossed using light green and Stardust embossing powder. I also heat embossed the black (yes BLACK) buttons w/white pigment ink and white sparkle embossing powder! One coat of ink!!!! I was shocked by how well the white covered the black! I added a few stickers and some ribbon. The rickrack is actually white but I wanted yellow instead so I brushed it on a yellow ink pad to achieve the color.

Supplies:
Cardstock: Brazzil Light Green, Recollections White
Accessories: buttons, Grosgrain ribbon, rickrack, stickers, cardstock letters
Ink: Studio G Ink Spots in Yellow and Light Green
Technique: Heat embossing
Tools: Martha Stewart Circle Cutter, Embossing Powder in Stardust and White Sparkle, Redliner Tape, Glue Dots, Foam Tape

Today is going to be a crazy day! Lots of errands before work and I have been commissioned to do 20 invitations for Brianna's Big BASH! :p I created some cute Flip Flops invites that I'll share with you tomorrow!

Have a fab day!

Mother's Day Card

Not much time today but here's the Mother's Day card for my mom. I made a tissue paper flower using my scalloped circle punch. Here's a tip! Underneath the layers of tissue paper, add a piece of foil. The punch will cut the flower much cleaner and no ragged edges!

Tealight Cake Box

By now, I'm sure you've seen my past couple posts on Tealight Cakes. Check here & here. I wanted to create a box for one too, and had seen a few but couldn't find any directions. So what's a girl to do but create her own? Well, not really create but I adjusted some numbers and added a bench for my tealight! The bench raises the tealight just enough that it's perfectly seen by the recipient!

I used the tutorial from Scor-pal for the One Cupcake Box. I made the following changes to the size of the cardstock.

  • Base - 21 CM x 21CM and score at 7cm and 14 cm on both sides.
  • Lid - 11.8 cm x 11.8 cm -score at 2.2 cm and 9.6cm on each side
  • Acetate - 6cm x 6cm
  • Bench - 2.5" x 3" piece of acetate - Score long ways at .5", 1.5", 2", 3", and 3,5". Fold along all score lines and using redliner tape, tape together the two sides that overlap. You'll end up w/a 2.5" x .5" bench for your cake to sit on to be seen through the window.

I goofed a little on the box lid. I meant to cut a partial scallop out of the lid to match up to the bottom but attached it before I remembered. I still love it and think it's cute! Next time, I'll add the extra cut!

I'm finally off to bed! I got off work at 1a and couldn't rest until I had made this box and posted it! LOL Crazy, right? :p

Have a fab day!

Tealight Cakes & a Sketch Challenge

I'm loving these Tealight Cakes! :p Have you tried one yet? The tutorial is found at splitcoaststampers.com.

I used this new product called Skittles from Stampin' Up. You can't see the glitter well, but I did heat emboss them in Stardust to add a little sparkle. Be careful when you heat emboss them though b/c the Skittle can melt a little bit if it gets too hot from the heat gun. If you can't tell by now, I LOVE to emboss! :p
Supplies:
Cardstock: Recollections
Accessories: Ribbon, Skittles, Stardust embossing powder, Cuttlebug Embossing folder in Swiss Dots, Aleene's Paper Glaze, Punches: Large & medium Scallop

I also made a matching card for one of them which satisfies the Taylored Expressions sketch challenge.
I used more embossed Skittles on the card. These were larger than the mini Skittles used above. I made a flower using a tutorial on Beate John's blog. I used a figure 8 type style to adhere the ribbon to the strip of red liner tape.
I made another flower to go around the "flame" and then added red glitter to the center.
Supplies:
Cardstock: Recollections, Random scrap paper
Ink: Studio G Ink spots in Orange, White, Yellow
Stamps: SU! A Beautiful Thing Flower
Accessories: Cuttlebug Embossing Folder in Swiss Dots, Ribbon, Aleene's Paper Glaze, Skittles, Red Sparkle Embossing powder, Red liner tape, Punches - Large & Medium Scallop, medium Flower
Time to go clean up a little around the house. :)
Have a fab day!
